Plant ink workshop in Amiens with Jules of Ecologik

Ecologik is not only a boat tour. Jules also leads nature workshops in Amiens, among them the plant ink workshop: a short, sensory and hands-on moment to make your own inks from local plants and try a few simple gestures on paper.

A nature workshop, not a lecture

The plant ink workshop is part of the environmental education approach carried by Ecologik. The aim is not to train you in dyeing or plant chemistry, but to open a hands-on way in: observe a plant, extract it, see how it behaves on paper, understand what it tells about the area.

No prior knowledge is needed. Jules adapts the session to the audience — curious adults, families, school groups, teams on a team-building day or organised groups.

Why Jules leads this format

Jules is a naturalist guide in Amiens, with a master’s degree in ecology. Plant ink is one of the formats he offers from time to time, alongside the boat tours, because it lets you handle living things without heavy extraction and links observation, gesture and trace.

It is also a format that speaks to several audiences: a wish for calm and nature for an adult, a sensory workshop for children, an alternative team session for an organisation.

Who it is for, and in what setting

Curious adults, families, birthdays, school groups, holiday centres, teams on a team-building day, associations, cultural or educational organisations. The workshop can take place indoors or outdoors depending on the season and the venue.

The exact formats (length, number of participants, venue, price, materials) are set case by case with Jules. This lets the session fit your group rather than pushing a single format.

How to schedule a workshop

The plant ink workshop calendar depends on Jules’s availability and on the season (some plants are only available at specific times). The request form lets you discuss it directly: describe your group, your aim, your window of dates and the setting (school, company, birthday, event).

For a combined format — a boat tour in the heart of the Hortillonnages plus a workshop — Jules can link the two if the logistics allow. Simply mention it when you get in touch.

Venues and consumables

If the workshop takes place in a host venue (restaurant, cultural venue, local hall), any drinks, meals or purchases are paid directly to the venue. Ecologik sells the guidance and the running of the workshop, not the venue’s products.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official Hortillonnages tour?

No. Ecologik Amiens offers a boat escapade guided by Jules, separate from the official Hortillonnages tour: that one has its own starting point, its own route and its own ticket office. The Ecologik escapade is a different local experience, along the water and through the nature of Amiens.

Where does the tour start?

The meeting point depends on the tour you choose: it is always shown before booking and repeated in the confirmation email. The boat tour in the heart of the Hortillonnages starts and ends at Île au Fagot (a loop). The walking tours of Saint-Leu start at Place du Don. The boat tour through Saint-Leu returns next season.

Are dogs welcome?

Yes, dogs come free of charge. On the shared boat, one dog per booking, declared when booking so the other passengers know, kept on a lead and under the responsibility of the person accompanying it. When you book the whole boat, several dogs are possible.

Do babies take a seat on the boat?

No. Babies under 3 are free and take no seat on the boat, as they are carried in a parent’s arms. They must still be declared when booking.

How much does the plant ink workshop cost?

The price depends on the format chosen (length, number of participants, venue, workshop alone or combined with a tour). Jules draws up a quote after discussing it through the request form.

Do I need to bring any materials?

The materials are specified case by case depending on the format chosen. Describe your group and your setting when you get in touch so that Jules can adapt the list of materials to your session.

Can the workshop be combined with a boat tour?

Yes, subject to Jules’s availability and the logistics. Mention it as soon as you get in touch so that he can link the two.
